Tips
for Incorporating Positive Thoughts into your Daily Life
We
know that positive thinking is an effective tool in changing how
we see the world, but for most of us, changing the way we think
proves to be challenging to say the least. I am going to give you
a few tips that will hopefully help you get started in the process
of filling your mind with positive thoughts and eliminating negative
thoughts.
Build yourself by building others. Rather than insulting others
or putting them down, lift them up; this will lift you up as well. By not allowing
yourself to look for the negative in others, you are less likely to focus on negative
thoughts about yourself.
Associate
with positive people.
This one is becoming increasingly difficult as the world around us becomes more
and more often filled with negativity, but it is important. We are profoundly
affected by the people around us, I'm not suggesting you leave your family because
they are negative, but try to make new friends who share the positive attitudes
you are trying to achieve.
Compliment
yourself and others.
We almost never take the time to reward ourselves for completing a tough task
or meeting a difficult deadline. The reward can be something as simple as saying
"Wow, I am good!" or buying a book of fiction to read simply because
you want to, and reading it (this is my favorite reward, reading for pleasure
and not out of necessity). Also, pay attention to others and comment when they
do something extraordinary to help you or they have a new haircut that is flattering.
This goes hand in hand with my first tip; by lifting up others you are setting
the stage for positive thinking about yourself.
These
three things may seem simplistic but by making a conscious and consistent effort
to do each of these things you aren't allowing time for negative thoughts to
creep in and you are filling your mind with positive thoughts. Remember this
isn't as easy as it looks, especially when faced with a negative world, but consistently
practicing these things will get you off to a good start on the path positive
thinking.
