Personal Choice and Positive Thinking

So often, people overlook the value of personal choice in the way they view the world. We can choose to view the world as a place of negativity and horror or we can enjoy the beauty of a sunset. We can view a traffic jam on the interstate as an interruption in our day or we can see it as a time to reflect and make note of the beauty of the world we live in.

Thinking positively is always a choice and there is no scientific 'how to' guidebook for positive thinking. You can only be provided with the basics, every step beyond that is completely up to you, it is a choice. We all have options each and every day for how we deal with events that arise which would potentially fill our thoughts with negativity. We are the only ones that can make the choice of whether or not we will allow this to happen.

For some this will be the most difficult component of thinking positively: making the choice and accepting the responsibility for their thoughts. We like to think that we can't control our thoughts and while there are times when our thoughts invade our conscious minds, for the most part, we can control them. Over time and with a great amount of practice we can learn to control our thoughts to the degree that it isn't even a conscious act.

That is the truly amazing thing about the power of positive thinking. Once we've trained our mind to do it, and formed the habit, it is a completely subconscious act. This means that while in the beginning it may be difficult to train your mind to see things and react in a positive manner, the payoff is a much better view of the world at large.
