Affirmations to Improve Your Life: Part II

There are many popular affirmation manuals on the market today. The affirmations that they contain are most of the time beautiful and well written. However, affirmations will have no effect if you do not believe in them yourself. In fact, if you don't believe in the affirmations that you are saying, they will be completely and utterly useless. You must find affirmations that resonate with you, and that's why instruction in writing your own affirmations is essential.

There is also a natural process that must occur when you begin to use affirmations. Since many of us have grown up with or developed negative thoughts about ourselves, we may not believe in what we are saying. For example, the affirmation "I am incredible" will have no resonance with you if your mind is responding "No I'm not, I've done this, and this…" and you proceed to mentally rehearse all of the negative things you have done in your life.

For these reasons it is important to start your empowerment process with releasing and cleansing affirmations. When you employ releasing and cleansing affirmations in your affirmation process, you can clear yourself of the powerlessness that you feel. You also open yourself up to the possibility of being a stronger, more powerful person.

The purpose of releasing and cleansing affirmations is to let go of all of the unneeded beliefs, behaviors and attitudes that are no longer serving you. Your mind can be looked at as an attic. Over the years, when a family lives in a house for an extended period of time, they begin to collect things in their attic. Some of it is necessary, but most of it is not. Your mind works the same way.

There is a perception that all of the thoughts and feelings you experience about yourself and your capabilities are important. However, this is not the case. All too many of us hold onto negative attitudes about ourselves which limit our behavior and keep us from reaching our potential. It's time to clean out that mental attic of everything that is not serving us in achieving what we want to be.
